More than six thousand students and academics will have access to cutting-edge technologies in electricity transmission, supporting Chile’s carbon neutrality challenges.

In a new step towards strengthening regional talent and advancing the national energy transition, the Universidad de Atacama and Conexión Kimal-Lo Aguirre signed a collaboration agreement that will allow students, professionals, academics and academics to learn first-hand about the deployment of direct current technologies (HVDC), fundamental for the efficient transport of renewable energy in Chile.

Thanks to this alliance, more than six thousand members of the university community in the Atacama region will be able to participate in training programs, technology transfer and applied research on energy transmission, smart grids, and safety culture in the construction and operation of electrical infrastructure.

Among the outstanding initiatives, the agreement contemplates a joint program that will seek to deepen the curriculum in this area, for which the university, through the Technological Faculty and the Direction of Continuing Education, will develop training, curricula, a design of professional profiles and instances of access to state-of-the-art technology, strengthening the human capital that will be demanded by the transmission projects of the future.

The rector of Universidad de Atacama, Forlin Aguilera, valued the initiative as a concrete opportunity for the future of its students. “We are very pleased to sign this agreement with Kimal-Lo Aguirre, which strengthens the synergy between the public and private sectors, integrating their experience in electricity transmission. This collaboration will contribute to our technical training, continuing education and research. Undoubtedly, it is a boost to the development of Atacama and the country,” he said.

The Seremi of Energy of Atacama, Yenny Valenzuela, added that as an institution “we want to highlight this important alliance between the electric transmission company Conexión Kimal-Lo Aguirre and the Universidad de Atacama, since the signing of a collaboration agreement will promote agreements on applied research, specialized training and knowledge transfer, among other relevant actions, which will strengthen academic training and human capital in our region”.

In the same line, Mónica Silva, Deputy Manager of Communications and Corporate Reputation of Conexión Kimal-Lo Aguirre, emphasized that “this milestone strengthens our ties with the Universidad de Atacama, as we recognize in it a strategic partner of the region. Therefore, today we celebrate an alliance between knowledge and action, taking the first step on a common path to promote specialized training, transfer experience and empower a new generation of professionals”.
