Environmental Impact Study
Background
The explosive growth of renewable energy projects, coupled with the saturation of the transmission system, has led to some of this clean energy being wasted.
To harness its full potential and move away from the use of coal-fired power plants, it is essential to strengthen the National Electric System with a new transmission line connecting northern Chile.

National Electricity Coordinator announces tender
In 2021, the National Electricity Coordinator put out to tender the development, construction, and operation of the first direct current electricity transmission line, Kimal-Lo Aguirre, as a solution in the transmission sector. The project was awarded to Conexión.
Energy in Chile
It operates through the National Electric System, which consists of:
Generation
Energy production from different resources.
Transmission
Transportation of electrical energy over long distances.
Distribution
Small-scale transportation of energy and subsequent consumption.
