Kimal–Lo Aguirre Megaline Advances in Environmental Evaluation with Submission of Complementary Addendum

According to the company, this project will be the first HVDC line to be built in Chile, spanning 1,346 kilometers between the Antofagasta and Metropolitan regions.

The HVDC Kimal–Lo Aguirre project has moved forward in its environmental approval process after submitting the complementary addendum to the Environmental Impact Study (EIA) to the Environmental Evaluation Service (SEA).

The project addressed the second round of requests for clarifications, corrections, and expansions (Icsara Complementary) from the Environmental Impact Evaluation Service (SEIA), as reported by the company.

The submission of the Complementary Addendum places us in one of the final stages of the project’s environmental evaluation, in line with the timeline of an urgent initiative and bringing us closer to the long-awaited construction phase,” stated Sebastián Fernández, General Manager of Conexión Kimal–Lo Aguirre.

The complementary information reflects a process that has “systematically integrated” the requirements made by various environmental authorities and through two rounds of public participation, “incorporating clarifications, expanding scopes, or providing greater detail on the project’s construction phases.”

Project Features
As detailed by the company, this will be the first HVDC line built in Chile, extending 1,346 kilometers between the Antofagasta and Metropolitan regions.

It also includes a reference investment of US$1.48 billion, the installation of 2,692 towers, and a route that crosses 28 municipalities across the country.

With a transmission capacity of up to 3,000 MW, it will allow for a more stable power supply and increased integration of renewable energy, contributing to the fulfillment of the recently updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), in line with the new Framework Law on Climate Change. This will be presented by Chile at the upcoming COP30 climate summit to be held in Brazil,” the company noted.
