The energy transition requires infrastructure capable of transporting the renewable energy produced in the Antofagasta Region to consumption centers.
In this context, the Kimal-Lo Aguirre transmission line was recognized as the outstanding project of the year in the Energy category during the 2026 AIC Annual Meeting, “Chile + Connected: Greater Competitiveness, Growth, and Employment,” organized by the Association of Engineering Consulting Firms of Chile.
The Selection Committee praised the scale and pioneering nature of the project, the engineering and land-use management challenges involved in incorporating HVDC technology in Chile, and its contribution to the energy transition and national climate change mitigation commitments.
The line will span 1,346 km and pass through 28 municipalities, connecting the Antofagasta Region and the Metropolitan Region to link renewable energy generation in the north with the country’s main consumption centers.
